Emergencies & Shut-offs

If you turn your water on and nothing comes out, your lines may be frozen. If this happens, leave the faucet slightly on so when the temperature rises above freezing the ice has a way to flush out. If you don’t, pressure can build and split the line, causing a leak. When this happens, contact a licensed plumber at Michigan Supreme Plumbing.

First locate the main shut-off valve in front of the house — usually in a round or square meter box with a green cover (landscaping may be hiding it). Alternatively, use a meter key to open the water meter box at the street and shut off the city’s supply; turn the valve clockwise. Once the water is off, contact a licensed plumber to diagnose and repair the problem.

This is usually the result of a blockage in the main sewer line. Go outside and locate your sewer cleanouts (typically in the front landscaping area, sometimes the backyard). Take the cap off one cleanout — this lets the sewage escape into the yard rather than into your home. Then contact Michigan Supreme Plumbing to clear the line.

Drains & Sewer

Sewer gas can be caused by many different issues. A licensed plumber can perform tests to pinpoint the problem. Contact Michigan Supreme Plumbing to assist you.

Never use over-the-counter drain cleaners — the chemicals cause pipes to deteriorate. Most tub drains clog from hair at the stopper; the only proper fix is to remove the hair and auger the line. A licensed plumber from Michigan Supreme Plumbing can handle this. Contact us today!

Water Heaters

Rusty, brown water is one of the first signs a water heater is beginning to fail — the coloring is caused by rust as the interior of the tank wears out with age and infrequent flushing. Turn off the water and gas to the heater, then contact Michigan Supreme Plumbing.

The most efficient heater on the market today is the Condensing Tankless Heater, which is 95%–98% efficient.

This is a common complaint. Long waits are usually due to the travel distance from the water heater — in most homes the kitchen is the last fixture on the hot-water system, so water travels furthest from the source. Contact Michigan Supreme Plumbing for solutions.

Pipes, Pressure & Coverage

The plumbing term for this is water hammer. It happens most often when you shut a valve off quickly (for example, a lavatory faucet) and hear a banging noise in the wall. A combination of things may be the cause — contact Michigan Supreme Plumbing to evaluate the situation.

If pressure drops at one particular faucet, the aerator (the screen at the end of the spout) is usually clogged. Unscrew the aerator and clean the screen — that often takes care of it. If not, there could be other issues; contact Michigan Supreme Plumbing for further assistance.
